Time to Shine and Say "Whatever, Bitches!"

As women, we are often our harshest critics. We scrutinise every photo, find flaws in our appearance, and let our inner critic rule our lives. How many times have we hidden behind the camera, taking pictures of our children instead of joining them in the frame? It’s time to let go of that inner critic and start living our best lives.

The Inner Critic: Friend or Foe?

We’ve all heard that nagging voice in our heads—the one that tells us we’re not good enough, pretty enough, or worthy enough. This inner critic stops us from sharing photos, trying new things, and being our authentic selves. But here’s the thing: no one cares about our perceived flaws as much as we do. Most people are too busy dealing with their own negativity to judge us. And those who do judge? They’re not worth our energy.

The Tale of Angel Wings & Track Pants

This photo of me and my angel wings perfectly illustrates this struggle. There are a thousand reasons why I love it and a thousand reasons why I despise it. I’m not fishing for compliments—this photo is genuinely one of my favourites.

The way the sunlight hits the angel wings, making me look like I’m glowing, is positively beautiful.

But here’s the backstory: my eyes look half-closed, and I’m wearing track pants. I meant to change, but my photographer Candice and I were having so much fun with the angel wings that I totally forgot that I still had my trackie dacks on!

Embrace Imperfection in Every Moment

So what’s the moral to this story, let go of the self sabotaging thoughts and have fun. Live in the moment, and most of all, be kind to yourself. Embrace your imperfections and let go of that inner critic.

It’s your time to shine, to live authentically, and to say, “Whatever, bitches!” Let’s stop hiding and start celebrating ourselves—flaws and all. Because the only thing that truly matters is being the best version of ourselves.

Breaking Free: The Power of Self-Acceptance

  1. Recognise and Challenge Your Inner Critic: Understand that the inner critic is often louder in our heads than in reality. Challenge its negative thoughts by questioning their validity and replacing them with positive affirmations.
  1. Practice Self-Acceptance: Embrace your imperfections and understand that no one is perfect. Celebrate your unique qualities and focus on the aspects you love about yourself. Remember, the sunlight highlighting your angel wings is far more significant than any perceived flaw.
  1. Be Present and Have Fun: Let go of the need for perfection and enjoy the moment. Whether it’s wearing track pants or having half-closed eyes in a photo, these imperfections are part of the fun and authenticity of life.
  1. Share Your Authentic Self: Stop hiding behind the camera and start sharing photos and moments that truly represent you. The people who matter will appreciate and love you for who you are, not for an edited version of yourself.
  1. Surround Yourself with Positivity: Engage with people who uplift and support you. Let go of those who judge or bring negativity into your life. Focus on building a community that celebrates self-acceptance and positivity, making it easier to say, “Whatever, bitches!” and live your best life.
